Tunnel cleaning project scheduled on Interstate 35 and Highway 61 in St. Louis, Lake Counties
Duluth, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has scheduled a tunnel cleaning project that will begin Sunday, May 6. The project is scheduled during evening hours to minimalize traffic interference. Motorists should watch for work zones and follow message board directions.
Cleaning schedule
The northbound tunnels on I-35 in Duluth will be cleaned Sunday, May 6, from 6 p.m. to Monday, May 7, 4:30 a.m.
The southbound tunnels on I-35 in Duluth will be cleaned Monday, May 7, 6 p.m. to Tuesday, May 8, 4:30 a.m.
Both directions of the Lafayette and Silver Cliff Tunnels will be cleaned Tuesday, May 8, 7 p.m. to Wednesday, May 9, 3:30 a.m.
The tunnels are cleaned once annually. Cleaning the tunnels improves safety by brightening the tunnel walls. During the project crews also check and replace lights.
Motorists should use caution when driving in the project area for their safety and the safety of construction workers.
